Hi, I’m Carly

I’m a theatre director, producer, reviewer and arts leader, with a career built around creating opportunities for artists, connecting people with great work, and bringing ideas to life.
 

I’ve spent my career working across the performing arts in Australia and internationally, from directing and producing more than 35 productions to building arts organisations, developing programs and festivals, and championing independent theatre. Most recently, I was the founding Artistic, Programs and Festival Director of Qtopia Sydney, where I worked across artistic programming, events and festival delivery, and established Pride Fest.
 

Since 2017, I’ve also been the Artistic and Managing Director of Theatre Travels, which began as a theatre review platform and has grown into an active publication with a network of writers covering productions across Australia and beyond. Alongside my leadership and producing work, I continue to pursue my own creative projects and freelance work, and I’m always looking for the next interesting story to tell, production to develop or opportunity to bring people together.
 

But there’s more to me than theatre.
 

In 2022, I became a registered marriage celebrant, which has given me the absolute joy of helping couples celebrate their relationships and create ceremonies that feel genuinely personal to them. It’s a different kind of storytelling, but one I love just as much.

When I’m not in a rehearsal room, at a theatre, or working on a new project, there’s a good chance I’m planning my next trip. New York feels like a home away from home, but Italy will always have my heart. I love discovering new places, meeting interesting people and finding inspiration in the world around me.

I’m lucky to be surrounded by people who inspire me, challenge me and make life all the richer for sharing it. I’m a naturally curious, enthusiastic and very passionate person, and I love connecting with people who are passionate about what they do.
